Increase Download Speed of Broadband
Step 1
Here’s a simple 3 minute tweak (XP Pro only) that will increase your broadband speed.
By default (even with QoS disabled) Windows XP reserves up to 20 percent of your connections bandwidth.
To override this reserve take the following steps.
Make sure you Log on as Administrator, not as a user with Administrator privileges.
* Start > Run > type gpedit.msc
* You will see [Local Computer Policy]
* Expand the [Administrative Templates] branch
* Expand the [Network] branch
* Highlight [QoS Packet Scheduler]
* Double-click [Limit Reservable Bandwidth]
* Check [Enabled]
* Change [Bandwidth limit %] to 0 %
* Click [Apply] [OK]
* Restart
Effect is immediate.

Disable add-ons
Disable add-ons from the Web browser. Installing a number of add-ons tends to slow down the speed at which pages load, so a good solution is to remove at least those add-ons that are not frequently used. Go to the "Tools" menu of the browser, and go to "Manage Add-ons," where you will find a list of all the enabled add-ons. Go through the list and disable the ones you don't need

Use public DNS server
The DNS protocol is an important part of the web's infrastructure, serving as the Internet's phone book: every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they start loading, so your computer may be performing hundreds of lookups a day
By using DNS you can:
· Speed up your browsing experience.
· Improve your security.
· Get the results you expect with absolutely no redirection.
